Terms of Service

Live

Effective 2026-05-08. By creating a Maven account or taking an assessment you agree to the terms below.

1. Acceptance

By creating an account, accepting an assessment invite, or using the Maven platform in any way you agree to these Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.

2. The service

Maven provides a hiring assessment platform where:

  • Employers create coding tasks, invite candidates, and review submissions.
  • Candidates take those assessments using a browser-based code editor, an AI copilot, and (optionally) a sandboxed terminal connected to a real GitHub repository.
  • Maven captures behavioral signals (timeline events, AI usage, code attribution) to help employers evaluate candidates fairly.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Maven. If you are using Maven on behalf of a company, you represent that you have authority to bind that company to these terms.

4. Account responsibilities

  • You are responsible for keeping your password and JWT tokens confidential.
  • You agree to use a real, working email address. Disposable / temporary email addresses (Mailinator etc.) are blocked at signup.
  • You will not share account credentials with another person.
  • You will not impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity to take an assessment.

5. Acceptable use

You will not:

  • Use Maven to harass, defame, or discriminate against any individual or group.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to bypass tenant-isolation controls or rate limits.
  • Use automated tooling to take assessments on behalf of a candidate.
  • Probe, attack, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data, including via the sandbox or AI copilot.
  • Use the AI copilot or sandbox terminal to generate or distribute malware, phishing content, or content that violates applicable law.
  • Submit code that infringes a third party's intellectual property rights.
  • Violate any applicable law, including export controls and sanctions.

We may suspend or terminate your account for violations.

6. Assessment integrity

When taking an assessment, you understand that:

  • Maven captures every keystroke, AI prompt, AI response, file open, code run, and (when proctoring is enabled) webcam-derived behavioral metrics.
  • This data is shared with the employer who invited you so they can evaluate your work.
  • You may not contact the employer outside of Maven during the assessment, share the assessment with another person, or post the questions publicly.
  • Cheating (using a different person to take the assessment, exfiltrating questions, etc.) is grounds for the employer to disqualify your submission and for Maven to terminate your account.

7. AI copilot — important

The AI copilot inside Maven is a third-party model (currently Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.6 with a DeepSeek fallback). When you send a prompt:

  • Your prompt and the relevant context (current code, task description) are transmitted to the model provider.
  • The provider may temporarily process this data per their own privacy and abuse-monitoring policies.
  • Maven does not control how providers handle inputs beyond their stated policies. Do not paste sensitive personal information, secrets, or confidential third-party data into the copilot.

8. Sandbox terminal — important

When you run commands in the candidate terminal (repo-mode tasks):

  • Commands execute inside a temporary E2B container hosted on E2B's infrastructure.
  • The container has internet access. Be mindful of what you fetch or transmit.
  • The container is isolated from Maven's production systems and from other candidates.
  • Container state is destroyed when your session ends. Do not store anything you can't afford to lose there.

9. Intellectual property

  • Your code remains yours. By submitting it through Maven you grant Maven a limited license to (i) display it to the employer who invited you, (ii) run it in the sandbox / verification grader, and (iii) compute attribution and analytics. You also grant the inviting employer the rights they specify in their assessment.
  • Maven's platform (UI, scoring algorithms, behavioral models, attribution logic, API surface) remains Maven's. You do not gain any rights in it by using the service.
  • Anonymized aggregate data (counts, distributions, model training datasets stripped of personal identifiers) may be used by Maven indefinitely.

10. Beta cohort participants

If you signed up via a closed pilot (cohort tag set on your account), you understand that:

  • The platform is in active development and may change, break, or have bugs.
  • Anonymized data from your sessions may be used to evaluate and improve the platform's scoring models.
  • Maven may contact you for feedback about your experience.
  • You can withdraw at any time via the anonymize option in your profile.

11. No warranty

Maven is provided "as is." We make no warranty that the platform is uninterrupted, bug-free, or that scoring models accurately predict job performance. Hiring decisions are made by employers based on multiple factors, of which Maven's output is only one input.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Maven's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to (a) the fees you paid Maven in the prior 12 months, or (b) USD $100, whichever is greater. Maven is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

13. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the candidate profile page. Maven may suspend or terminate your account for violation of these terms, abuse of the service, or non-payment by your employer (for employer accounts).

14. Changes

We may update these terms. The current version is shown at the top of this page. If we change the terms materially, we will re-prompt you for consent at next login. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Maven is incorporated, excluding conflict-of-law rules.
